This blog article provides an overview of the January 2010 Chevening Lecture by CambridgeIP’s Quentin Tannock. The lecture was hosted by the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership and is titled ‘The Economics of Climate Change: IP Ownership, Taking the Lead’. The lecture covers ethical and policy issues, the facts on the ground in terms of IP ownership, the impact of international conventions and national policies on IP activity and the range of options for technology transfer in Low Carbon Technology spaces.

The grant of a patent for induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in the United Kingdom in January and the notice issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office in February allowing claims under a US patent application entitled “Methods for Reprogramming Somatic Cells” signal a significant new feature of the stem cell patent landscape. But don’t imagine that stem cell patents are about to become straightforward.

CambridgeIP invited to 10 Downing Street

CambridgeIP was one of several firms from the East of England invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.  Firms were chosen in recognition of business success in overseas markets.  I represented CambridgeIP at the reception, where I was struck by the diversity of products and services offered by attending businesses, and by the frank question and answer session that was conducted by the Minister for Trade and Investment Lord Davies and the Business Secretary Lord Mandelson.

Marketing your technology in the credit crunch

Earlier this week Quentin Tannock and Miranda Weston-Smith presented a tutorial on ‘marketing your technology in the credit crunch’ for representatives drawn from a select set of Technology Transfer Officers at four leading UK Universities.  A recent CambridgeIP/PRAXIS survey illustrates the challenge faced by TTOs as they seek to efficiently market their technologies. Quentin and Miranda presented survey findings together with illustrative case studies demonstrating how fact-based IP analysis can accelerate your technology market research and technology licensing.
